I have a problem.
I currently have a good set of lenses (at least I like them)
Canon 17-40 F4
Canon 70-200 F4
Canon 50mm 1.8 II
My problem is that I used my friends Sigma 10-20mm the other day and was blown away with how wide it was, I loved the effect.
I love my 17-40mm, its easily the nicest lense I have ever used, but I can't help thinking about that extra wide angle, but its very hard to justify because of my 17-40mm. I also want a decent Macro lense.
So, should I get the Sigma 10-22 which is hard to justify, but I really fancy, or should I get a good macro lense instead.
I just don't know what to do!!!!
If I go for a macro, do you have any recommendations? |

I have the Canon 10-22 and love it.
****I am always unhappy with 3rd party lenses. I can't say that I will ever buy a 3rd party lens again. I am not planning on it.****
I also have the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro and it is freaking awesome!
I'd recommend both Canons.
They are for completely different applications so I can't help you decide which one.

well, you slipped the macro Q in at the end quite nicely :)
IMHO you really need the 10-22, its not the same beast as the 17-40 and the overlap is really neither here nor there, its the 10-17 you are buying and thats a world of difference.
as for the Macro, you appear to have Canon in your blood and I can do no more than recommend the 100mm F/2.8 macro, but I will say the sigma 105 F/2.8 is as g o o d i f n o t

The Tokina 12-24 is supposed to be almost as good as the Canon optically, 2mm isn't that much to worry over if it saves that much money. I LOVE my 10-20, but wish I had read the reviews about the Tokina being sharper. :(

yup, according to the Japanesse the United States Dollar is worth the same as the English Pound, we get totally stuffed on cam gear :(
I do have a 'friend' on Honk Kong if anybody wants to pm me ;) shan't introduce any Nikon bods to Albert though (unless they chant 'Canon rule' 5 times whilst dancing naked on hot coals)

Can you stop helping me Steve, your confusing me even more LOL!
I am still struggling here, I have just found a very good company selling used (but in new cond'n gear). I could get both the Sigma 10-20 and the Sigma 105 2.8 EX Macro for £460.
That seem really tempting to me, considering I am tempted to spend 400 quid for the Canon 10-22.
What am I gonna do!!!!!

2mm on the end of a 300mm lens isn't much but its (no good a maths) about 20% on the 10mm end and believe me, thats a lot! If I get time tomorrow I'll upload a couple of pics showing the difference.

Update the lenses in your profile Darren - show the world :)

Well, I placed an order!
I have to wait till Wednesday for them to arrive because the bag I ordered is coming from a different warehouse.
I have the Sigma 105mm 2.8 Macro and the Sigma 10-20mm winging its way too me. I also bought a new bag to acommodate these new babies, plumped for the Lowepro Magnum AW.
Just gotta wait till next week now, and I am not the most patient of people.......still, it'll give me a chance to let the wife know about the happy news *TAKES A DEEP BREATH*
