Woohoo, just bought a Pentax K100D yesterday!
...And had to exchange it today because of a hot pixels issue :) Hope this body does better.
I'm quite impressed with the thing so far, other than very awkward ISO and WB adjustment. Other controls and the overall feel is fine. Nice big viewfinder. Nice big LCD. Nice kit lens (way better than the Canon 18-55). The "digital preview" (takes a picture, shows it on the LCD with the histogram and other info, but does not store it in memory) seems convenient, especially coming from a point-and-shoot. Most importantly, SR (the in-body image stabilization) certainly works!
Sample unedited 100% crop: //users.z3.ca/~lament/pentaxcrop.jpg
ISO 800, focal length 55, shutter speed 1/30, SR on. Ignore the hot pixels.
I played today a little with a 50-200 lens, and SR certainly appears to miss more with telephoto, but sometimes still gives very nice results.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied. And now I can diss both the Canon and the Nikon users with a clear conscience :)

| Congrats. No thread about Pentax would be complete without the words 'zoom fisheye'... so are you going to get one? :p |

I agree, I got my K100 last night. Luckily no Hot Pixel issue. At first I was a little concerned because I had read that it would work with my older K-MF lenses, but couldn't get it to. Then I broke down and read the manual, no problems. I am very impressed with the SR. I've been playing with it with my 80-320AF and can tell a huge difference in the shots. I can almost handhold at 320, but only in good light. I love the feel of the body, very sturdy, the handgrip is fantastic and well formed.

| It seems to be selling well here in Japan. Three times I've been in camera shops and someone's buying one |

Showing off SR with telephoto:
//users.z3.ca/~lament/pentaxtelecrop.jpg
unedited 100% crop
focal length 200mm
shutter speed: 1/10
handheld
Admittedly, i had to take two pictures on the same settings (the first one was completely blurred), and I was sitting. Still, 1/10 is about five f-stops under the "recommended" minimal shutter speed. |

I'm waiting for the K10D announcement before I decide which way to go.. but money is being put away now for a new body.
Can't wait.
Congrats on the new cameras. By all accounts, the K100D is a hell of a cam.

| Can someone explain to me what a hot pixel is? Is it the same as a dead pixel on an LCD monitor? |

i believe that it is a pixel that isnt recording information correctly, so it stands out... say in a blue sky there is one bright red dot
