Guys,
I was told by another person into photography today that I should use a longer shutter speed on my photos. He was telling me to ue like a 10sec shutter speed. He said it would make photoshop manipulation easier. Is there and validation to this?
Thanks

Erm.
What an odd general statement to make that is. Unless you just take one sort of photograph, you can hardly apply the same shutter speed to every situation.
10seconds would make for some interesting sport action photos, for example.
I can't see what bearing having a long shutter speed would have on post production editing in any way. |

Without context it's hard to say, but I doubt it. Photoshop manipulates pixels with math. Makes no diference whether the pixels originated in 1/1000 of a second or 10 seconds.
That being said, unless you use a tripod and your subject is absolutely still ... it'll probably be worse with a 10 second exposure and certainly grainier.
Show us some pics that prompted the comment, please. |

would only be better if you need 10 seconds to expose properly. If you're underexposing by a lot then you should adjust. This indeed will make it easier to finish the photo in photoshop. |

um no,
But from what I've read, if you can afford the loss of speed, it can be a good idea to overexpose by about 1/3 stop then in RAW conversion pull it back. By doing this it gives better exposure of the shadows give
more detail and less noise in the shadow regions. Sensors capture more
highlight detail than shadow detail, and this provides a slight means
to capture a little more shadow without adding more noise. |

Thanks everyone,
There was no photos associated with it we were randomly chatting about photoshop and he said it. I was talking to him about selective coloring. I thought it was weird. Glad I passed it by ya all..
Thanks
