I think I might like to have a Canon 35mm body. I'm not looking for an expensive one, just one to mess around with when I feel like it. Can someone recommend a decent body that will use my current lenses for around $200-300.

You can get a Canon EOS Elan II for under US$100

The 1N. It was released back in 1994, and it was the second 1-series, so it's a pro camera. There's two versions, the 1N and 1N RS - the RS has a vertical grip, on the N it's optional. The RS also has a 10fps burst mode and the viewfinder doesn't black out..

I have the 1N without a grip because I'm too poor to get one yet - you should be able to get one in your price range. It's still a great camera, built really well and the controls are great. It'll make you hate your XT, and anything but 1-series cameras ;p

Never mind, new lenses won't work on older Canons, D'OH!

ELAN 7 or 7N ('e' version if you want eye controlled focus) Its got pretty good features, not too expensive, lightweight and fairly quiet.

Edit: Well I'm just a little slow! I just bought one of these too for use in a film class.

For new Canon 35mm camera's in that price range I like The Elan 7N

If you don't mind used you can get a Canon 1 Series (film) body used on keh.com for $200-$300.

I have the ELAN 7n, it's a great film body. I shoot primarily B&W Film with it and have gotten the following shots with it...

The controls for the camera are in a similar layout to the controls that are on the 20D and the 30D DSLRs. In a way, I feel it helped me easily transition from my 300D to my 30D.
