I would like to see a new feature of the site that would allow me to sort a photographer's portfolio by lens, camera, aperture, shutter speed, etc. This way I could learn how others are using the equipment I already have (or plan to buy), which interesting shots are taken with wide open aperture, and which - stopped down, at what shutter speed, etc.

One way of doing this would be by generating a table with thumbnails of *all* pictures from one photographer's portfolio, and have all the shooting data listed as columns in that table. Clicking on a column header will sort the portfolio by the corresponding parameter. Pretty much the same way the portfolios can be sorted by Title, Collection, Date Taken, etc.

Another way would be by having implicit collections: that should be easy to split the collection by equipment used, but splitting this way by shooting parameters should be harder, since there are too many possible values for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.

This would require that this info be entered on uploaded photos. A script to automatically read and enter the exif info would take care of it, but many of us save-for-web and thus our uploaded photos do not have exif data attached.

On an unrelated topic, what is the 'blad H1D??

Never mind, I found it. Impressive. I didn't know we had any digital 'blad owners here.

If the data is not entered - not a big deal, the field will be blank. For instance, if you leave out the "date taken" parameter right now, it appears as N/A in the table.

Although snarfing the data automatically out of the EXIF at upload time would be fantastic.
