Large number of entries will be problem because of the time limitations of the challenges.
This is a site that people enters 2 or 3 challenges with fresh photos each week. I am pretty sure, some of us have other sites to visit, which have similar contests, or whatever, so this is not the only website with photo challenge, and people here (not all of them) anchored just here... so we are also busy with other things, each time number grows, we (I) feel pressured sometimes (I know, no one is forcing me, but that's me "feeling" that way)
It will be problem, funny how others think it will not. Many sites I know, I mean MANY sites, started something small, and grow very fast that they couldn't handle the crowd, and did something about it. It is kind of crowd control too. Personally, for me, its a turn off to sit and look 800 photos for two-three challenges... even if I give a break and come back later on, which most of the time I do forget...
Langdon is thinking something about this, I can bet on it. The voice is getting louder in his backyard.
Dividing entries probably the best idea but not the solution. "For now" ideas usually don't work long term. There has to be "sweat" limitations of "something" if not limitation in numbers. I don't know what it is, but there must be something.
I don't mind to read ideas here... I am sure Langdon thinks the same. Until I hear something official from the site owners and SCs, I probably keep beating the horse here.. or until this thread locked :P |
