All of a sudden my camera won't start. I've tried everything but no result. I have to send it back to Germany for repair and I thought to move on a bit. Since I don't have the money for a DSLR, I would like to ask your opinion about a good P&S. I was thinking about the FujiFilm FinePix S5600(5200 in the US). I have about 350$ to spend so please help me out.

Thanks!

You say you don't have the $$$ for a DSLR? I thought the same, but the Nikon D50 is affordable and AWSOME, and now the D80 is out expect the D50 and D70s prices to fall.

Good luck and happy shopping!

You may be able to get a dslr on ebay for that amount. Just watch closely and check the feedback on the seller. I know that some have gotten Olympus E-300 for around $300.00 or so on ebay by watching the auctions and waiting out their time. It just depends on what you are looking for in a DSLR.

Also the 350D should plummet in price now that the 400 is coming.

I've always loved my Sony V1, and never understoond why it went down in price so fast. Anyway, you can get one on ebay (most are new) for less than U$150. It has a lot of "manual" controls, that's why I bought it, and the quality is excellent.

In order to afford a DSLR I need double the money I have and I can't wait to have that kind of money because I need a camera now. So a P&S is my best option so far.

You can get a Nikon Coolpix 5400 AND a lens kit for it for about that. My portfolio is evidence of what it can do.

I tend to prefer the Panasonic FZ-series cameras over the Fuji superzooms, for the optical stabilization if nothing else. You could probably find an FZ5 or FZ7, maybe even an FZ20, for that price.

I have another question :)

A few days ago my sister arrived in the US and she's currently staying in Northwood, OH. Is there somebody from that area who knows a good camera store, since the prices in the US are lower than here in Europe. I thought it would be a better deal for me to buy the camera from there.

Thanks again!

i would not count on the D50 to be going down much further in price unless it gets discontinued. Nikon just recently lowered the price of the D50 so it might be awhile before it goes down more. However the D70 could take a nice price drop.

tell her to look for a Best Buy or Circuit City.

Giorgo, all the big stores have websites with a store finder function. Just put in the zip code and it will show you the nearest stores.

Try Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, perhaps even Walmart. The camera stores like ritz are more expensive.

Don't forget that google is your friend - you can do so much research on the web before you have to start hitting actual stores.

Finally my new camera is arriving on monday. After some research I've decided to buy the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. I've fixed my old camera though, it turned out that some contacts were broken and the SD card was dead.
