Trying to just set this clear for myself after reading the vague rules but after reading twice I assume it is ok to:
Add a border to only 2 of the 4 sides in Basic Editing?
Edit: Such as this example:

Should be fine as long as the border is clearly set off from the image itself, as in your example. If you choose the color to blend in and effectively increase the canvas size, that's a no-no.

Thank you bear, was hoping to hear that.
And yes I do remember the "issue" you are referring to with the over enlarged border compensating for part of the photo. =) |

This is also a fine thing to do when your image doesn't quite fit a standard print size -- you can always cover or trim the excess. |

well, in generealy i don't like borders at all ... i mean photos on web should be presented as they are (without borders) and the border/frame should be individual choice when putting the photo on the wall :-)
oh, where did i go ? :-)
sorry |

Yeah. There seem to be a few about at the moment with pretty large borders, I find they can be very distracting. |

I find this practice VERY distracting. To each their own I guess.

Sounds like you're fine with the example you've posted. Would fall under "alternative" borders in the borders section of the challenge rules.
Of course, being as this type of border is quite distinct, you may have people guessing as to who the photographer is should it (2 of 4 border) be used. ;^)
Looking at your profile, creative use of borders hasn't hurt you much in scoring.
- top 20 finish, 2 of 24 commenters didn't like the border.
- top 20 finish, 4 of 42 commenters mention the border.
Sometimes you're darned if you do, darned if you don't. ;^) Good luck! |

I'd been wondering about this - is it okay to have a border that blends in with part of the photo? |
