Wow guys! Thanks!!! I just got home to find a ton of responses and will try them out soon. I will also try to post the photo here, except I am not sure I know how to do that yet (I don't know where to post it to reference). Basically it is a band photo I took of my brother's band I am trying to turn into a flyer for their next show, but it has a bunch of "junk" in the background and we want it simplified. There are 5 of them, which makes it harder I suspect. I would rather just get them together again and re-photograph them in a studio setting, but this would be a good technique to know.
