I am in a dark place right now. When I get this way I love music that is dark, and deep and sad and full of soul. Usually counting crows ends up being a go-to but that is too cheerful.

I just discovered through complete accident Townes van Zandt. I don't like country usually but his songs go beyond any genre.

He is the most amazing songwriter I have ever heard. His songs are truly reaching my bones.

call to action

1. check out Townes Van Zandt

2. give me more suggestions of great songwriters to wallow with.

thanks guys.

Listen to Led Zepplin: How The West Was Won from start to finish. All three CD's.

Or Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds

already great stuff.

I LOVE radiohead. Just got the new thom yourk(sp) and it is... different. it usually takes me a while to embrace something by him, but in a couple of months I LOVE it.

I'll check out ben harper for sure. I've heard that name a million times, I don't know why I don't know the music.

zep... I am a zep fan... I've never thought about zep while in my "dark place" but I've never heard that album either. I'll check it out.

keep them coming.

Jeff Buckley makes me cry when I'm feeling down. Great songwriter, great riffs, soulful voice, great tragedy.

lyrics like
"Born again from the rhythm screaming down from heaven
Ageless, ageless and I̢۪m there in your arms "
and
" my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder / all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her / all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter / she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever "

beautiful stuff

I second that motion. The best final song of any album,

When I think of Heavy and dark and moody I think of things like Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral

"He couldn't believe how easy it was
He put the gun into his face
Bang!
(so much blood from such a tiny little hole)
Problems have solutions
A lifetime of f**king things up fixed in one determined flash

Everything's blue
In this world
The deepest shade of mushroom blue
All fuzzy
Spilling out of my head"

That may be darker and heavier than you're looking for though.
