They tweaked nightshot mode because you were able to see through clothes in certain modes and conditions. |

Some Sony video cameras with the nightshot mode, when in daylight can shoot through clothes when people were wearing white or lighter colors. It was disabled when Sony found out that people were using it this way. |

The camera can shoot in IR mode at night. Certain synthetic fabrics are IR transparent... |

It wasn't that easy. You had to use fairly aggressive IR filters also.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure you will have to physically remove the IR block filter or physically jam it into place to be able to do what you want to do.
I know that is the case with newer Sony Nightshot Camcorders.
It's not uncommon that you have to physically remove parts from a camera to use it for IR photography.

I was unable to find any info, but you may want to start googling Sony f717 hacks or mods.
I have found enough info to coclude that a firmware hack for the F717 does not exist, so if it is to work, you will actually have to make a physical mod to your camera.

This isn't firmware, but it may help you achieve the results that you are looking for (or not).
Ebay listing for 58mm IR X-Ray filter that fits the Sont DSC F-series cameras. |
