the image previously in 4th place was disqualified for failure to provide an original.

congratulations to bobdaveant for his top 5 finish and to hikerdude for his top 10 placing.

remember to keep your originals, kids!

Just a Q - Should one preserve the original image alongwith the PP notes? And in these notes should one be noting down descriptive steps e.g. Gaussian Blur 10% and USM with 2 rad.
Or a just broad steps will do? e.g. Gaussian Blur, USM, resize.

I know absolutely newb Q ... but I like things from a horse's mouth.

:-)

I'm not really a horse, but...
Yes, you should. Probably the best idea is to put the notes on how you did it into image description, that way you will not forget or misplace the steps.
Sometimes broad steps will do the job, but if you did something tricky, such as selective desat in basic, or some tricky curve to enhance/hide something in the image, it is better to have these numbers jotted down (such as color range and saturation strength fo rteh hue/sat layer, or curve coordinates for the curves layer, USM strength, radius, threshold etc.)

By the way, not having a camera this probably does not concern you much :-)

Broad steps should be fine. That's all I've ever provided.

A very good question, actually. It's of critical importance to preserve the original, unedited image, as it camer from the camera. The editing steps can just be your recollection. The more detail (to a point) the better, but you don't need to o overboard. Where you think that settings on a particluar tool were essential to getting the results you got, it is a good idea to document those settings. That does make validation *much* easier, since we sometimes have to try to re-create an effect to validate that it is achievable using the steps given.
It's not a great idea to do a "dump" of the history from Photoshop, since that often yields a tremendously long text file that buries useful information in lots of "chaff." Better to summarize, with specific settings wehre appropriate.
