OK, so I went a bought a half decent tripod. Nice and sturdy.
I open it up, set it up, screw on the mounting plate to the camera and mount it to the tripod. It wiggles. WTF? I tried putting the plate in without the camera. No wiggle. WTF?
Now, the D70s doesn't have the little hole in the bottom for the little pin so I unscrewed the little pin. Still wiggles. WTF?
It would seem that the screw part of the plate doesn't screw into the camera far enough and hits the top of the ballhead.
Can anyone help with my WTF's?

| I've got the same issue with my Manfrotto 141. I've yet to figure out what the actual issue is and have just gotten in to the habit of avoiding putting weight on the camera while I'm aligning the shot to ensure that it is actually sitting as it will when I let go of the camera/tripod |

Cameron tripod and head.
I've put the plate in both ways. It would seem there is no backwards...

There is nothing like the Arca quick release system with a custom plate (such as Kirk or RRS) for the camera. It'll never slip or wobble.

So without actually buying ANOTHER piece of equipment for more than I have (those won't come cheap) how would you fix what you already have if it were you?

| Is there anyway you can just put some kind of little shim in there? Like perhaps a small piece of cardboard (like a matchbook cover) or folded up paper? Like when you install a doorframe or align a pump and motor. |

Thought more about grinding down the bold coming up through the ball head as it's more permanent. But yeah, cardboard would work that way too.
Maybe even grind off an 8th of an inch off the end of the screw that attaches the plate to the camera.
Suggestion besides these?

Don't grind use a Flat Bastard File. It is much easier to control the amount of metal removed. |

Hmmm. Yeah I suppose. I do still want to be able to use the thing after all! Just so long as nobody suggests using duct tape.

You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape. |
