I'm a sucker for macro work. Here are a few things I think you could improve.
1) The lint on the rose is very distracting. It would immediately remove it from any consideration for stock or fine art prints.
2) In my opinion, the green in the lower left corner is distracting. If I were shooting this rose, I would crop that out or, more then likely, recompose in the camera.
3) This image feels very "post-processed". The rose looks too purple in my opinion.
4) I think you made a good choice with your focus point. It works well in the image.

Hi Mike,
Thanks a lot for the critique.
1. Lint - agreed, i tried spraying it with water, maybe it went off
2. I'll try cropping it
3. Well, to be frank, there is absolutely no post processing, i only resized it. but the white balance was set to "AUTO". Can I change it in any way?
Here's an out take after I tried to get rid of the lint

What was your light source? Was it natural light? Tunston bulbs? The auto white balance features in many cameras work very well. Sometimes they need a little tweaking depending on what you're doing. When I'm shooting in my homemade softbox, I have to shoot on the daylight setting to get the in-camera white balance I like. It took some trail and error to get where I wanted to be with it. I think maybe the purple-ness is a product of a white balance issue.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

The source of light for the first one was fluoroscent tube.
For the next out take, I tried natural daylight, about 3:00 in the afternoon. I guess the results are a bit better. For the second one only post processing was levels and brightness contrast |

I agree with 1, 2, and 4 but I personally adore the purplish color! |
