I really like Hokie's version. It definately grabs the attention. No offense, Doc, but your versions look like something from the '70's to me. Not sure why...

I like this one for many reasons...
1) it gets the point across nicely
2) there's not a picture of some lady getting a shot (no one wants to see that, believe me)
3) the red grabs my attention and if hanging on a wall or whatever, I would definately stop and read this |
This one definetly caught my attention. Looks like something you would see on a billboard even and I could easily see this one hanging in a hospital or doctors office. |

You know, I do have a thick skin, but I do have blood running in these veins! (runs off sobbing)....
Actually, I like hokie's better too. I do want the poster to grab, but I mostly want the poster to get people to get their flu shot. If that means showing them someone getting one, so be it. (I acutally have no idea if seeing a picture of the shot either "drives people away" or "drives the message home".)
70's?!? Man, I was trying to use hip colors and stuff. We'll see how well I can copy hokie tonight...

There there big guy.
Don't get me started about flu shots either, my wife was raised Christian Science. She never had a vaccination until her 20s. We have a 6 year old. She's OK with inoculations, insistant in fact (she's a kindergarten teacher) but we have some interesting conversations with her mother!

Hey Doc!
Is that young boy in your poster your son or a person you can use for the poster?
I think he is great for the poster...maybe you could get various photos of him and run him by this group here to see which ones have impact? |

Version #2 (before Robt. slammed me):
Changes:
1) Asymmetric
2) More subtle colors
3) Larger Pictures
4) Brighter pictures
5) Caden's shot is square instead of oval
6) Wording change on the text.
Closer Robert and others? The words that came to mind in my poster compared to hokie's were "public service announcement" versus "ad campaign" which probably indicate "low budget" versus "high budget". I am going to try to take a few shots of Caden in the backyard with the orientation of his shot and work something up like his. That sort may run better in newsprint versus up on the wall of the pharmacy. I don't know. |
better - though i would go lighter on the green fadeout in your 'windows'
it really does tell a story better in this format ..

I think maybe it's the sort of avocado green color that made me think '70's.
Your son is adorable, btw...
Not to go too far off topic, but what is the connection between flua and asthma? Does getting the flu make you more likely to have an asthma attack? Just curious, since I suffer from allergy related asthma...

I find the poster to be ironic. It's a takeoff on the "got milk" ads, yet milk is thought to be by some a highly reactive allergen that has been associated with asthma. Even if you believe this to be a myth, there are those in the population you are trying to reach that believe it and, imo, will be turned off by the poster, even if just subconsciously. |

I'm sure if there is such a population, it would be very small. Milk is associated with food allergy, which can come with asthma-like symptoms, but that is an entirely different horse.
Margiemu, it works both ways. Viral infections, such as influenza, are a strong trigger for asthma and can lead to exacerbations. However, the pathology that underlies asthma seems to also put people at an increased risk for more significant symptoms from influenza as well.
And by the way, that was Country Green, not avacado...

I did purposely choose that to try to connect with young adults who a) would very likely know the "got milk" campaign and b) are the least likely to get their asthma shot.
I guess yer just too old Rae-Ann...

Personally, I'd rather not see someone getting a flu shot on the poster.

Here's Cheerz' version:
and here is my blatant copy of hokie's template:
The only issue I have with this one is that it doesn't have an adult at all. I don't know if that will speak as much to the twentysomething except for the twentysomething moms who will say, "I need a flu shot for my kid". Perhaps I'll do a second version with an adult on the inhaler.

any idea when you're going to pick a logo?

Where will the poster be put up?
I suppose you're going for digital prints.. so it'll be ok to do 2 or versions..
1 for kids, 1 for adults, and 1 for the elderlys..
basically, you could add in the implications the complications have on these groups of pple.
:)

I like your reproduction of hokie's version, with a couple reservations:
- Move away from the "condensed" font for the title, use a font more like hokie's
- Stay with a sans-serif font for the subtitle and text
- Increase the font size of the text as far as it can go
I like the idea of two versions, one with an adult. |

The condensed font is as similar to the actual "got milk" font as I could find for free. That was the goal there.
I'll look at sans-serif for the other text.
