Thought I would share this image. At a local fair that had a Dockdog competition. This is one of the images I took.

Cool pic, but I've never heard the phrase "Dockdog"...where does that originate from?

A Dockdog for those who do not know is a 'dog' who jumps off of a 'dock' chasing there toy into the water. There is a competition for this to see which 'dog' jumps the furthist. It is alot of fun watching these dogs. |

Does any particular breed stand out in these competitions? |

My late 'dog' "Tree", a husky/golden cross, was an extraordinary leaper, and he won several dockdog prizes. RIP, Tree :-(

DockDog-
There is a 20' x 30' pool and about 5ft deep. At one end of the pool is a 20-30' ramp that is about 2-3' above the water line. The owner keeps the 'dog' at the backside of the ramp, to give him lots of running room. The owner gets the 'dog' running down the ramp at at the last moment the owner throws out the toy over the water.
I took this image at the end of the pool. This 'dog' instead of just jumping into the water actually tried to catch the toy in the air. So when he jumped off the ramp he was heading upward toward the toy rather than outward toward the water. That is why the image is of the underside of the 'dog'. |
