A little over a year ago I purchased my first DSLR.
Exactly one year ago today I joined DPC.
About 3 months ago I signed up on eight stock photography sites.
I uploaded about 10 photos total (combined on all sites) and didn't put a lot of time in to it.
I've entered 18 challenges.
And as of today, I've sold my first photograph!
Do I correlate my time on DPC to selling a photo? Maybe a bit.
I haven't won a ribbon or had a picture score above a 6 but I have learned a lot. My challenge scores have been all over the board.
When I started on DPC, I'd submit a photo and think, "I hope it does well" and I'd be surprised at my score. Now I submit a photo and I think, "Let's see what the feedback is this time" and I can subjectively look at a photo and know why it's viewed in a certain way. This isn't to say that a DPC score is an absolute judgement of a photo but it does help compare you to others and make you look at your photos through others eyes.
So yes, I've only made $.66 and someone may just be using it as a desktop image, but I don't care. It sold!

Hi Matt, I know how you feel... When my first photos have been sold at fotolia, I also had too look immediately who would buy them. It was a great feeling to see it were serious advertising agencies (and I've been working in ad agencies for about 15 years...)
