So I took on the challenge of voting and commenting on every shot in the Fire challenge and it was hard. I did not realize how hard until after the voting.

What I learned is, I am a troll, I am a DNMC Nazi, I am a fairy and a hard ass. What I mean is I struggled with a few of the images. One especially stands out as it is one from Qart.

Qart did an out of the box shot that is KICK A$$ but when I got to it in the voting I gave it a 3 cuz I thought it DNMC. I struggled with this and went back to the image 2 more times to change my vote because I did not want to be one who craps on out of the box thinking but in truth it did not meet the challenge as it had no fire in it. But am I going the one to stifle creativity and would I want to be crapped on for such a technically excellent image?

Anyway what I am trying to say is if you want to learn a little about yourself, pick a challenge and comment on every shot it will give a whole new perspective on the way people see your images in challenges.

I think I learned more by commenting than by receiving comments. What really strikes me is that in order to learn you can't worry about being popular or offending someones ego as well I need a thicker skin when it comes to my images.

Thanks DPC for helping me to grow as a photographer.

Now stop griping about not have enough comments and go make some. :-)

Good for you. It was a great image, and I am glad you took the time to comment (something I admit I did very little of this challenge). If you look at the challenge description, it can be left open to interpretations of fire as well. Look at the Third place ribbon. You can't see one flame, but it is implied.

Yup I am with you on that. I learned that too.

Going into the challenge I knew I was going to get hit fairly hard as I realised that this image was not one that some would accept as a literal interpretation of the challenge. Knowing that, I went ahead and entered anyway not because it was all I had but rather it was an image I was proud to enter and display and one I considered a unique take on the theme.
I wasn't surprised by much during the course of the challenge by the comments and votes received and in the end I ended up pretty well where I expected to. I've had my share of good fortune here and although it is nice to place highly, it's also important to maintain a standard and approach that I can be proud of.
The ONE AND ONLY exception to my expectations was the very respectful and serious manner in which YOU conducted yourself during the voting. You gave a low score yes, but you took the time to explain why in a very gentlemanly manner and with obvious respect for the recipients feelings. You further proved your class by returning to leave an additional comment. In fact you did it once again.
To me, you are the perfect example of a member who takes the responsibility of voting seriously and who understand the value of fair play and honesty.
Karma my man Karma. It's my opinion that you have many good turns coming to you.
It was a pleasure reading your comments and a pleasure to be able to write to you!

Ahhh...Judi....all of my life, I never dated anything other than redheads, then I married one, now, unfortunately, I'm getting divorced from one. No more redheads for me (at least for a little while).

I gave the shot a 6 - was happy to give you credit for an interesting interpretation of the challenge - the hair really is fiery. I thought, however, that it was a touch over-processed (while this perhaps made the hair resemble fire more closely, the girl's face looks slightly unnatural because of it).

Now... how bout the eight one's own up to them :P.
