Hey Guys,
Over the past week my 350D has been playing tricks on me.
I have had the camera for just over a year now and have had no problem with viewing pics on the LCD, they have always been the right way up, when taking Portrait shots they show on the LCD in portrait mode and although slightly smaller I preferred it this way. They then transferred on to the PC the 'right' way saving me from having to rotate in PS.
This past week however everytime I upload images to my PC they are all random ways round meaning most of the shots need rotating. Why is this happening?? I haven't changed any in camera settings and cant for the life of me work out how to fix it :o( Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Apologies in advance if this question has been asked before.

THere is a sensor in the camera that determines orientation (you may be able to hear it click if you rotate the camera back and forth). There is a setting in the camera for turnting auto rotation on and off.
RAW files always come up the right way for me, and using canon's software the JPGs do too. In PS though, a JPG from the camera needs rotate (300D, 20D, 30D) - always has. |

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply, the Auto Rotate is set to ON in camera and I only shoot in RAW. Before this week the files always came up the right way but now they just don't seem to want to play :o(
Other than the Auto Rotate I cant find any other settings in the camera/manual that might effect this, am I missing something??
Thanks again for your help :o)

| I wonder if the rotation sensor is sticking? Watch as you take pics whether the preview is coming up in the proper orienation. If not, bump the body of the cam against your hand a couple times, shoot another frame and see if it comes up correctly. |

What Kirbic said. If your camera is held at an angle (or pointing up), it can confuse the orientation sensor when you take the shot and get unexpected results. Also, any sound you hear when you shake the camera is probably the latch for the pop-up flash, NOT the orientation sensor.

look on the bright side, some cameras don't do any rotating at all, at least your still does some ;-)
I hope you get it resolved, just the "i've got to figure this out" factor can drive you off the edge. |

ARGH! Things are getting worse! Have just taken about 10 shots with the camera in the 'landscape' rather than portrait position on the tripod. Now my landscape shots are showing on the LCD as portraits AND at an angle, they aren't even straight!!!! I know I can sometimes have a lean but thats usually when I'm hand holding and that never shows on the LCD ;o) Whats going on?? Do you think maybe my camera needs looking at? :o(

Maybe time to do a hard reset. (Av/Tv mode, Menu, far right tab, clear settings)
Just an idea. Easier than a hammer anyway. |
