A friend and I was talking today about in camera settings and we compared and contrast his camera and mine. Just curious whats your prefered settings.

Just got my D50 a few weeks ago, I'm still learning it and so far I still have all the factory setting except for the language (French)

Haven't had the camera out of RAW mode since I bought it, so I don't ever think about in-camera settings.

Fine, I shoot with all my settings at zero. Is that better? ;-)

guess so....
When you shoot raw al the settings don't matter. Contrast White balance sharpning

You can allways adjust afterwards. So the best is to do it as minimum as possible. But the exposure and focus has to be good. No settings at all at zero dude!! When you shoor JEPG it does matters.

When I was shooting with my Coolpix 8700 (which would shoot RAW but slow to write them) I shot in JPEG most of the time, but shot with all the settings (contraasts, sharpening, etc) at thier minimum.

I've lawys liked o pull the flatest image possible into photoshop.

Yep, with the raw it's even better. Rember, JEPG is compressed, so a damaged image ;)

Not entirely true. When shooting RAW, changing WB in camera will affect your histograms. If you depend on histograms for your exposures, then keep it in mind.

You're right! Indeed I always do the whitebalance. But the rest i'sn't neccesary.

I shoot RAW so that is 0 saturation, 0 contrast, 0 everything.

RAW plus small jpeg, and I LOVE that feature on the 30D. For the small jpeg I have two "picture styles" I use - Standard with +1 on contrast, saturation and sharpness; and Monochrome, with +1 as above, and occasionally I throw in a red or yellow filter setting, depending.

Oh - that's +1 up from what the camera starts out with for those styles.

RAW 99.9% of the time.
Pic styles...currently prefer standard and portrait with sharpness at 3, and often a contrast boost in PS.

I suspect you'll see contrast change you histogram too.
