No, I'm not asking what camera and lens you'd buy, but rather what features you'd want. Real-world features that exist on today's cameras and realistic requests for near-future things.
Most importantly, why do you want those features? |

| Oh, cause I was going to say a space telescope akin to the replacement for Hubble. I figure, I could always lease it out when I wasn't using it and buy any SLR I wanted with the profits. |

I guess I'd like a large format scalable sensor that could move within the camera to change the FOV as needed for the situation. Why? Because sometimes I don't need large format and that way my lenses would act the same whether I was using the camera as a large format or a APC sized sensor.
A hot mirror you could turn on or off would be nice as well as some form of night vision technology that could be turned on / off. Why? For IR / UV photography and extremely low / no light situations. |

| How about a dSLR that records a true 16 bits and a sensor that can accuratly record light in a full 11 stop range. |

Two cameras and two lens systems.
Canon 1D Mk II n (or the replacement I hope will soon be released - yeah I know it's probably not going to happen because of that 1.3X)
and lenses appropriate for high speed shooting.
HasselBlad digital for pretty much everything else.
Combine those features in a full frame 12 Megapixel imaging sensor with FULL TRIPLET color information and you would see a BIG smile on my face.
8FPS with 40MB RAW files might be a bit much to ask for current standards though... :)
I would guess that would fill even your needs Kaveran.. :)
I would probably make a lighting backpack with a handful of Lithium Ion Batteries that I could use either with an umbrella or on a stand.

I'ld like a 15-30mm 1.4
That would be a thing of rare wonder and beauty
I'm not going to be gready and ask for a 10-500mm 1.4 (with no distortion and great sharpness at any length...) - which would be nice, but also impossible. But I think a 15-30 would be almost within the realms of possibility, sure it would cost a arm and a leg but would be pretty much the perfect lens for me.
And VR would be a nice little bonus. I might even consider a 1.8 if it had VR.

| And another even simpler thing that could easily be done with current technology is getting rid of AA batteries in flashes. It pisses me off that I've got a beautiful battery in my camera that can take over 1000 photos on a charge but I still have to charge AA batteries for my very expensive SB-800 |

Even better, how about a feature where it automatically checks DPC for the current challenges, and you just tell it which one you're going to enter, and what score you want to get, and the built-in GPS tells you where to find the perfect subject and what time to be there, and when you get there little arrows in the viewfinder tell you how to compose it. :p |
