I am currently using a 16" Dell Ultra Sharp monitor set at 1024 x 768. I will be getting a new monitor in the next couple of weeks, and am leaning towards another Ultra Sharp but 19-20". This will be for my home computer and while I will do some "work" on it, my main concern is that it be wonderful for viewing/editing photos. I can change the video card if necessary. I am not trying to start another war, but are there any specifics that make monitors better for photographers?

Just a suggestion (not about the monitor), if your current video card doesn't support dual monitors, get one that does. You'll love having dual monitors for photo editting.
No suggestions from me on the "best" monitor for editting, although I've had good experiences with NEC monitors.

| I guess I should be asking what capabilities and settings to look for more than what brand. |
