I am not a great commenter and I don't usually ask for comments.
I recovered some of my lost data and I came across this pic. It's minimal PS (bit of curves and USM after resize 100/0.5)
I am proud of the way I managed to capture the light but there is something there I don't like.
Opinions?
Thanks.

I did the crop

The crop really works for me! The light across her face and hair is great and putting her face near a 'thirds' point helps the composition. I like it a lot this way.

Agree with the others, the cropped version looks great.

yes, so the cropped image of the old lady looks great.
BUT, I think the way light shone on the kid's shoes is worthy of attention too, just too bad the kids are in an awkward pose... unless you can find a way to hide the kid on the far right, and keep only the 2. Dunno, just thought I'd throw in some comments

It was taken in a poor countryside area in SE China, Guangdong Province.
Thank you for your comment.

The missing face on child closest to woman plus the extreme contrast on his clothes are distracting. If the FinePix can shoot in raw you might recover some of this. Esp. if you have a personal connection to these people and you just want a documentary pic. I'll try to attach a crude edit showing what's possible. I created a new layer and adjusted levels to bring out detail. I then set a mask to remove this adjustment from the ladies face which otherwise would have burned out. I then burned some of the highlights. I'm a little crude with this. If you have a fine or raw verion of the image I believe you could really spice it up.

Your try shows a different mood and adds more dramatism.
Thank you for your time.
It was shot jpeg and I don't have a chance to go and reshot.
