heyah, everyone! relax...EVERYBODY gets a mulligan on their first one ;-)
take a deep breath, take your time, and it will all come together. let's just say this deadline got pushed until tomorrow, just so everybody can catch up. (BUT, we won't make a habit of this!)
as to cropping, well, if you're using photoshop, the easiest way is to set your cropping parameters up on the tool bar (after you've clicked on the cropping tool). just fill in 640px and 512px and 72dpi and you're good to go. hopefully, other editors offer something similar.
if you are finished, please pm me, and i'll let you know what to do next. |

UGGG I want my shots in now!!!!! :-) actually it was nice to come home and take the afternoon off, the deadline was a help!
OK so I'll reshoot the couple of them that I'm not 100% happy with.

| Mine are done. Had trouble getting them with the Monsoons we had this week. Real bad one this morning everything was flooded around here. |

lemme say WOW!!!
i've just reviewed the ones that i had links to. what a great start!! i'll be pm'ing you my comments first, then posting them to the images after i've had a chance to review all the submissions.
from what i've seen so far, ya'll are all on the right track, and with just a little fine-tuning (and a little more time, as always is the case), you will be rocking!
one thing i want to make clear: this is NOT a competition to see who has the best photos, or who meets the challenge the best. it is a PERSONAL challenge to try to meet a deadline and fulfill an assignment. as you get comfortable with the concept, hopefully, you'll find yourself taking even better photos with less effort.

I only have 2 of the 5 I had planned. One I like, the other not what I wanted really. "Real world" job has been crazy this week (real estate contractual deadlines) and I have a party at my home tonight that I need to prepare for. Doesn't look like I'll make the assignment this go around :(

Okay...I would like to try for this next round. My upcoming week is looking much calmer and with my daughter back in school I'll have to day time hours to play. :)
I had the ideas for the Labor Day challenge, just not the time to impliment more than a couple of them. |

Real-world Speed Challenge #2: Best of Back to School
Take 5 photos that illustrate things related to going back to school. Keep in mind the 'Best of' theme; for example, 'Best Place to Get Coffee before School', 'Best Bus Stop', 'Best Place for School Supplies', etc. Use your imagination, and do your best to bring in all 5 photos.
Again, title your images 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Remember, less is more. Try to shoot tight (but not so tight as to become abstract), and pay attention to your lighting.
Just remember to keep the images hidden until you hear from me on Thursday. If you have any questions, post them here, or PM me. Good Luck! |

Well, here are my two that were completed. I went with local interest, not necessarily nationwide. The volleyball was specifically with the intention to illustrate that the AVP Beach Volleyball has a big tourney here over Labor Day weekend. The boats were to illustrate one last visit to our local state park which is great for sailing.

I don't think I am in this week, school got started and getting the schedule to together. But I have decided to join the college paper as photographer this semester to see how that goes. So its not like I am not working on photojournalism at all :). But I WILL be back next week so i hope this sticks idea sticks around.
