Last week I saw a story on the news about a High School teacher who goes above and beyond the class room to teach and share photography with his students.

It was a very nice story and it followed one student as he walked around the streets of Houston taking photos of his neighborhood.

Once a year there is a competion that the students partake in and then the photos are displayed in a local gallery.

From what I coul tell they used old Minolta full manual cameras with a prime lens and black and white film, and they developed their photos in class.

Some of the photos were really nice.

Just thought I would share a nice news story since there is not much nice stuff in the news these days....

I can relate to the your story Jab! The art teacher at my school is constantly in contact with me, either in person, or via the internet, about photography, and giving me assignments to work on, or critiquing my portfolio, she is also working very closely with me putting together a personal portfolio so that I can use it to get into some university programs I want to take. This may not sound unusual for an art teacher to do for a student, but the trick is, I'm not even one of her students. In fact, I don't even take art, because my school doesn't offer any photography programs within the art program! She's doing it just because she love's art and photography, and she see's some talent in me!

i have a teacher of sorts that does that with me ... he is a friend i made while working at a community college ... i was a computer technician .. and he was a student that one of the teachers introduced me to .. because the teacher knew i was interested in photography .. first time i met him i wasn't sure what to do .. he was deaf .. but that only stood as a challenge for the first minute .. after that we got along great and have no problems ... tho he is buisy full time with his job and his personal business .. he still takes the time to send me photos he has taken and to critique mine and offer suggestions ... ya know .. keep you looking up even when things might be down.
