ok, without going into my profile (please) can peeps give me their thoughts on this image? I worked hard for a week to get the right shot and ended up returning to the second shot taken. It wasn't the best shot but i felt the good points better outwayed the bad points - I could have done soo much better lol

so, any thoughts on this 'non' bell shaped chart? (kind of like a dpc histogram ;)

Fron a statistical standpoint, it's actually *very* close to a gaussian distribution... with the exception of there being too many 4s and to few 3s and 2s. The fact that you got a single 1, 2, and 3 vote is just pure chance, and isn't that unusual. Given the overall distribution, something like this might have been expected:

9 4s
6 3s
2 2s
0 1s

The observed distribution seems to be heavier on 4s than random chance can account for, though testing that hypotheses involves assumptions that render the results a bit subjective.
I'd guess that for many, the image didn't have a load of impact or wasn't pleasing, but that folks could not bring themselves to give less than a four because of technical merit.

Thanks kirbic :) I think I understand :) and yes, your probably right - will show the image if nobody else cares to comment.

It's almost a perfect curve, as Kirbic points out - nicely symmetrical if you discount the 1,2,3 entries. And I didn't have to visit your portfolio - if it's the entry you had in Stopped Motion, I remember which one it is. :-)

Tallking like that we could make it a straight line if we altered the totals ;)

ooh Deb, you remember the bell charts that go with images as well? clever girl, yes, it is the stopped motion shot ;)

Yes, there is symmetry but its lob sided. This isn't one of my favourite pictures but one of my highest scoring shots. I think K has it by saying its techically an ok shot andit meets the challenge (and if push comes to shove it was no worry for the wonky trolls).

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys :)

Heh! It wasn't the scoring curve I remembered - I look up entries that I liked or commented on for a specific reason after the challenge. I remember that the egg/desat picture was yours and I merely assumed that was the one you were showing the curve from.

I'm not that clever. :-)

I didn't see your shot yet Andi, but when I see a curve like that I tend to think one of two things:

1) Technically excellent shot that didn't capture the audience's fancy. (no "wow")

2) Great capture with technical flaws.

Actually I think #1 or #2 when I see a zillion 5s. You got a ton of 6s so I think you managed to blend the two to more of an extent.

I think a picture with either technical excellence or a great subject can almost get you to a 6 alone. Beyond 6, you need a combo of the two.

Maybe the voters are getting tired of being called out for voting the entire scale?
