Remember folks, fenceposts are not mandatory, it's hopping out of the car at the side of the road to catch something, instead of just driving by, that is the essence of "Fencepost Photography"

I must say there have been some beautiful photos posted!!

All of these shots are great. If this has never been a challenge, it should be!

I love the one with the crutches. I have some also but have to figure out how to get them on here but no time now. I also drive around with a camera in my car and was honestly thinking of a book entitled --Scenes from a car window. Anybody have some of those? We could start new challenges LOL! I know what you mean about almost getting hit by other cars, but you are right the dogs are the worst.

Well in that case, this shot qualifies:

It was shot through a wire mesh deer fence from the side of the highway.

A question for those stopping along the roadside to shoot. Do you ask permission when shooting homes, barns, or property? We usually don't ask permission unless there is a person outside that notices us when we pull out the cameras but I always wonder if we need to.

You people STOP to take these pictures?

You don't have to ask permission if you are on public property, and are shooting areas normally visible from there. Using a long telephoto to shoot the interior is an invasion of privacy if not completely illegal. If a person appears in the photo such that they are recognizable (but not a well-known public figure), you'll need a model release for commercial use, but not for your own personal, journalistic, or educational use.

I have to stop... otherwise there's usually a bit too much motion blur. Of course, when combined with the bugs splattered across my windshield, it does impart a slightly abstract effect to the shot. :-)

Like the General, sometimes I don't stop. I took this while driving, hanging out my window, at about 120KM/H, while talking on my cell phone, smoking, and reading the newspaper.

ok, the phone, smoking and reading part aren't true, but i was driving ;) It was a deserted highway, so I was really only putting myself at risk.

Pedro

ps the surgeon general has determined that taking pictures while driving can be hazardous to the health of the driver and anyone else on the road. Please practice safe photography. and stuff.

While not a close up of the fence; it lends itself to the image I think...

Shot while driving along this weekend.

Maybe not strictly a fencepost shot, as I didn't hop out of the car. I took it whilst in the passenger seat of a car that was driving 70mph along the motorway.

Not stricly road-side, but certainly fence-post.
