What size do i need to get and what brand and trying to get something cheap at first to play with and then upgrade to the better filter.

look at the size of the filter thread on front of the lens... and why spend extra money on getting a cheap one then upgrading?
I believe its 52mm threads...
and B&W offer AWESOME filters.

You need a 52mm filter.

| You usually want to purchase the biggest filter size to fit your lens collection and get step up rings for the smaller ones. That way you have filters for all your lenses. Step up rings are a lot cheaper then buying multiply filters. |

ok as a present i got a cir-polarizing filter and everyone on here said for the 50 1.8 to get the 52mm and it does not fit all the filters i've seen have threads on the inside and this lens looks like it needs one to take threads on the outside.....what do i do.....can this filter work....should i look at step up rings becasue this filter is a 52mm but it is the exact size of the lens.....please help

I'm confused (but also drunk), you bought a 52mm filter and it doesn't fit the Canon 50mm 1.8 mkII? It should, because it requires a 52mm filter...

| now that i look the company sent me a 58 cir-pol and the corect uv so i sent them an email and hopfully it would be corrected. sorry for all the trouble just late at night and on top of that i had a really really bad day at work....thanks again and sorry again |

| I vote for Hoya - and there are various levels of quality. Don't throw cheap on top of expensive - expect to pay around $60. Also, you should remove your UV when you use polarizer. |
