I've been reading user reviews on the D200 - the only real complaint is the battery life.

I get about 10 days of 200 images a day - sometimes forgetting to turn my camera off - out of my D70

What is the comparable battery life span for the same shooting on a D200.

(I do notice my VR lens burns through the batteries in a day - but the results above are with my non-VR lenses)

Thanks,

Isn't there a battery grip for the camera?

Battery life is good but not quite as good as my old D70. A few weeks ago, I shot 500 RAW images, mostly burst mode, continuous focus, using my 70-200 VR lens, no flash on a single battery over 2 days.

Depends on how hard you work the camera. Saving RAW and jpg takes more juice. Continuous focus takes more power than single focus. Flash takes some power. And so on. I always carry a spare battery. At the end of the day I switch batteries and charge the used one. I rarely need to switch during shooting unless I'm really shooting a lot.

Good to know Dr. The D80 didn't even phase me - I'm focused on the D200 and the only thing I'm hearing is battery life issues - but no real results -

Single battery for 2 days is very workable. I bought three batteries when I bought my D70 - needless to say I always have plenty of juice on hand. They are the same batteries for the D200 right?

No. You have to buy the new EN-EL3e batteries, which can be used in your D70 but not the other way around. I have the one that came with my D200 and a spare, and I have never run out of juice, even shooting 500 or so Norm/Fine JPEGs in a day. Buy a spare charge every night before a big day of shooting and you will be golden.

Thanks,

Don't worry about leaving the camera on. My D200 is much like the D70. I left it on for a week once and didn't lose much battery reserve at all. Where it uses battery life is shooting. You'll get more JPGs than RAW. I get anywhere from 200 to 600 RAW images per battery charge. If I'm taking pics right and left at a very rapid rate I occasionally get 600 images a charge. If I'm taking studio setup or Macro shots a few at a time over a week, I might only get 150 to 200 per charge. I've got one spare and that is all I usually need. If you're out in the boondocks I'd advise at least 4 batteries and maybe the grip. While the D200 doesn't get the battery performance of a D70, it beats the D70 image wise. IMO. ;)

I have the grip and one extra battery, and I've never had a problem. The EN-EL3e batteries are able to supply information to the D200 about exactly how much power they have left. The problem with the D100 (and likely D70) was that you weren't really sure how much juice was left. The battery indicator on the camera would be full or almost full one moment, and then it would indicate that it was almost completely drained the next. Not so with the new battery. The D200 has a battery info function that tells you exactly how much power is remaining, among other things.
