Hello,

I am looking for any advice on how to take great product pictures for the web. I use a Nikon Coolpix 885, and the pictures are decent, but not great. I especially have trouble with detail, and shadows (which may have to do more with lack of proper lighting than the camera).

I worked with a photographer a while ago who used a very expensive camera - don't remember the model but I remember it was a Nikon, and worth about 8 thousand dollars. The sharpness of his pictures is amazing - granted he had some props like a glare deflector and good lighting, but I'm thinking the camera must make a difference too.

Here are some exmples of his pics:

And here are some examples of my pics:

My question is ... how do I take pictures like his? Do I need a more expensive camera, or is it more in the technique or setting? If I need a better camera, which one, and how much do I need to spend?

Also, if anyone has any other advice, resources, links, etc on how to take good product pics for the web, I would greatly appreciat it! Thank you.
AJ

When you post messages there is a line of icons above the message box. The icon second from the right helps you insert hyperlinks.

Frequently light tents are used for small products.

These are a good place to start for nice even lighting. Your camera should be fine for small(ish) webshots, and having a tripod is helpful too.
