While on vacation, I was shooting all my pictures in RAW (Canon CR2) format. I only have one CF card (yes, I know I need more) and when it started to become full, I tried to connect my camera to a friend's computer. The plan was to transfer the files from my camera's CF to a USB flash drive. Windows detected the new hardware and I had a camera icon under My Computer. When I went into the camera, I saw all the folders on the CF but there were no pictures inside!!! I typically use a CF reader at home, which works fine. I changed my camera to jpeg mode and took a test shot. When I re-connected my camera it only showed me the jpeg image. It seems Microsoft is trying to 'help' me by hiding anything that is not a jpeg.
Is there a way for me to configure a computer to treat a camera as a disk drive (thus letting me see ALL my files)?
Is there a program I should carry on my USB drive that will allow Windows to recognize CR2 files on a camera?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to get the raw files to show up when you plug in the camera. I typically use Canon EOS Viewer to move them, but that's not much help if you want to use multiple computers.
Maybe installing microsoft's raw viewer would make them show up in the camera icon? |

| Same thing with my Minolta. Windows doesn't recognize RAW files because it can't open them. Start a new folder on the desktop, open the folder where the files are (your camera's folder),then drag/drop into the new folder....THEN you can open them with RawShooter or whatever program you use. To trasfer it to your USB flash drive, just go into Explorer and drag/drop the whole folder into the Flash Drive. |

For the 20D you need to download the driver from Cannon. A guy here at work has this camera and this driver -used to- do the trick. However he recently changde machines, still running XP Pro, and now he gets the same thing you are describing even with the driver loaded. But, at least download the driver and try. Good luck.
edit: it is the Windows Me/Windows XP WIA Driver 5.4.1
