I know we often take things around us for granted, and then a tragedy happens that leaves us saying Why?

This past weekend a little girl by the name of Kelli Pierson was killed in a 7 car pile up. Her younger sister is in Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh with hopes of coming home Thursday after being lifeflighted there. Kelli was only 9 and a 4th grader at my little boy's school.

Tonight a special memorial slideshow was presented to parents and students of the school in her memory. The little girl transferred this year and didn't even have a chance to make friends but yet tonight there wasn't a dry eye. I sat there while her teacher read a beautiful poem as the slide show was presented. Five minutes before the presentation I was upset at my little boys behavior and suddenly I looked at him and thought just how quickly it could happen and I couldn't hug him fast enough.

What is really scary is tonight I saw photos of the accident and then it all hit it me. Why did my mother-in-law stop to get gas at Sheetz? She never gets gas at Sheetz she doesn't like to go there. But this past weekend she did. I was in the car with her, we were pulling up to the pumps as these two cars came speeding by us out on the blvd. drag racing. We heard the crash, didn't see it. But why did we stop for gas? Why there? I called her tonight to ask and she told me she couldn't explain why she stopped there for gas. Just that she had the weirdest sensation and decided to stop for gas. I asked her if she had saw any photos of the accident. We were rerouted as we were leaving Sheetz, we didn't see the accident then. I told her the van that was right in front of us was involved in the accident as was the car behind us. Reason I know the car behind us was involved was that was the car Kelli was in, I recognized the car from being at the school dropping the kids off, and her mother and I acknowledged each other further back on the blvd. at a stop light.

We don't know why we stopped there for gas. She only got $2, her tank was almost full. We don't know why a little girl had to die this way. Why did the accident happen?

Two guys in there early 20's were racing down the blvd. one of them lost control and cause the accident. Why? He was drinking!!! Thats WHY!

It's so strange cause I realized tonight that the crash we heard was horrible. It could have been us and all I can say is, "Why did you stop for gas?"

Anna, you certainly grabbed my heart...can't answer your question, but feel your sorrow...glad you avoided being involved.

Great sad story, God was involved in it that is why she got gas.

So often we don't realize the impact and importance of our choices. Such irony that a small thing like stopping for gas and a major choice to drink and drive can have life changing effects. Thanks for the pause.

Such a sad heart wrenching story, brought tears to my eyes. God was definately with you that night. Sometimes there are just no answers no matter how hard we search for them.

I can't disagree there.
