OK, so doing away with an animal in an inhumane way is obviously cruel. Anal electrocution, drowning, starvation, beating and leaving for dead..
Euthanasia for humans is hotly debated, but it's hardly in debate that killing a human simply because they are past their prime is atrocious behavior.
But killing an animal in a quick and humane way... particularly an animal that thinks as simply as a dog...
Forgive me if I'm missing something, but how is this cruel in comparison with the above?
I've seen plenty of animals that are kept living in non-racetrack environments that would be much better off just going to sleep.
If they aren't prepared to take care of the animal properly, the animal should be passed on. The SPCA back where I grew up (Canada) would only keep unidentified animals for a week or so before putting them down. It seems that it's a decent alternative to prolonging a sad existence.
If someone comes along and says that they want to take care of an animal, that's fine and good, but I seriously doubt that there are enough homes for all the animals out there.
Then again, I never could understand doing things just for the sole purpose of competition.
If you have a dog, sure, race him. Why someone would raise an animal just to put him in a race with no desire for companionship is beyond my understanding too... |
