Hello all and sundry...
Does anyone know of a good teleconverter for the Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Zoom? |

faidoi,
Sigma seems to have *a lot* of teleconverters for Canon AF. I would like a 1.4x teleconverter, but the sigma site doesn't really point me to one... |

| You can't find one on the Sigma site because they don't recommend using a teleconverter on this lens. |

Thanks talmy,
I just got an email from Sigma confirming what you have said. |

Hmm... did they tell you why they don't recommend it for that lens?
I'm guessing it might just be an issue with AF not working properly because of the smaller aperture.
I got the exact same lens and I was looking to get a big teleconverter like the Kenko Pro 300 3.0x. I'm aware of the AF problems due to the light loss but I don't really mind not having AF.
So now I'm wondering if there's another issue with that lens and a teleconverter other than AF not working.

| IF you choose to go with a teleconveter, I have the Sigma 2X EX DG. I don't see any noticable drop-off in quality. The problem you will run into with that lens is the fact it's a slow lens as it is. A 2X will, in effect, double all your numbers...making that lens a 140-600 f/8-11.2. I have the 70-200 f/2.8 and need quite a bit of light to use it with my 2X. |
