Fairly often, esteemed dpc member jjbeguin hides one of his treasures in a dpc challenge. I don't think I'd do better than anyone else at guessing which picture is his, but I DO tend to score his pictures higher than most. Currently, my jjbeguin average is 1.25 higher than his overall average.
Of course, results vary, and I find it fun to check for him after every challenge. This week I did unusually well, giving him one of only 2 10s he received. Last week I bombed, giving him only a 5 in the Zen challenge, lower than his average score.
The usual disclaimers apply: I'm not advocating blind hero worship. It's possible for any artist to waver in quality. This is more of a "reality check," to keep your mind open to the possibility that you are missing something in a photo when you score it low. I always try to stay open to that possibility. And of course, you can apply this test to any photographer you respect. I find jjbeguin to be a good choice because his scores vary widely and he seems to make no effort to take a "DPC style" photograph.
