What is the best way to take pictures of waterfalls? (ie fast or slow? as part of a landscape or fill the frame with just the waterfall??)

i tried last year on some when i had my nikon 5400 and it all ways blew the highlights.

Generally long(ish)exposures - not too long though or you'll end up with too much white. Read Dr Achoo's tutorial - it's good.
Mostly you'll use shoot vertical but sometimes horizontal is good for cascades and weirs. I did one last night that works better with a square crop...
