I know this has probably been asked, but after reading the editing rules, i need some clarification. With Cloning.... can you take something out of a pic w/o getting DQed? Ie. a tree, or a person standing in the background?

Supposedly if it isn't a major element it *should* be okay to clone out. What is a major element.. that part seems to have some different thoughts so its hard to pin down.
You can look through some old winners/submissions that had things cloned out that would get you DQ'd today and then others that are rather ambiguous. Many times when things get DQ'd for cloning of major elements there is a bit of a debate on why it was considered such. I saw a recent winner that mentioned they'd actually cloned stuff in (in the details) and its stayed a winner so.. who can say??
I guess if you've got an example that you have time to submit to one of the SC for an opinion that'd be your best bet.

This is a highly subjective thing.
"major elements" itself is a very subjective thing on the site.

General rule of thumb. Show a person your original shot. Ask them to describe it to you. If they include the object that you want to clone out in their description, it's a major element and can not be removed... |

Submitting it to ONE of the SC would be bad advice. That one SC could tell you it's ok, but if it came in front of the entire panel for vote, might turn out that the majority thinks it's not.
The best course of action in this circumstance is to goto the HELP/CONTACT section and submit a ticket under General Inquiry, and list editing steps and attach the entry and original. We can then come to a group concensus weather the image would be deemed legal under the editing rules. |

Oooh learn something new every day!
I didn't realize the tickets go to more than one SC at a time (never used it), I figured it just went to one person sorta like the Critique club thing works. One SC pulls up a ticket and then the next one gets the next, etc.
Definitely good to know!
