Hi, I'm still reading it online but I think I should also ask you gurus in here. I've got a computer with AMD Turion 64 processor. It comes pre-loaded with WinXP Pro. My question is:
1. how do I check if my WinXP is 64 bit or the 32 bit version?
2. if my WinXP is 32 bit version, can I run 64-bit version of 3rd party softwares? (example: S7Raw program has a 64 bit version)
Thanks guys |

I was told by the techs when I bought my laptop that had the exact same processor in it that I had the 32 bits but it would run the 64 when it came out. I didn't think that the new 64 bit version was out yet...but I could be wrong. |

Right-click My Computer and choose Properties to see what version of WinXP you are running -- if it is 64-bit it will tell you.
Right-click My Computer and choose Manage, then "System Tools/Device Manager" on the left and finally "Processors" on the right to see what processor you have.

Unless you know that you have 64 bit windows, it's more than likely that you don't. (Most retail-shipped releases on pre-built computers are still 32 bit)
To answer your other question, you would not be able to run a 64bit specific application without a 64 bit OS to run it on. |

thanks guys - I feel so dumb!
OK, I'll stick to 32-bit versions. I checked, and I have the 32-bit WinXP... |
