If I had a brain fart and accidently shot a bunch of portraits without turning my camera on it's side, is there a way to fix it up so the prints come out in portrait orientation instead of landscape?

yes. you'll need to crop them into portrait orientation, though.

#1 unfortunatly, have fun with that... It's a pain in the butt... Aggravated further by the 3:2 aspect ratio...

#2 fortunately, you probably would have wanted to crop to a certain extent anyhow.

tough choice to have to crop so heavy, but you're gonna have to. Well, you'll learn from this and won't make the same mistake.

It's very much doable. You have plenty of resolution in the 30D. You will, of course, be limited to how much you can crop and how big you can print afterwards.

HOWEVER, I had a similar situation last year using my 20D. I had a crowd of about 70 people. They told me they wanted the people *and* a 2002 Olympic Landmark in the frame (reason being some of the family having ties back to the Olympics). In order to shoot this, I had to shoot vertically. The people were in many levels so they weren't spread out too wide. But still, I would have preferred shooting horizontally.

Well... after they saw the proofs - they changed their mind. They wanted to see peoples' faces better. So they wanted to horizontally crop my vertical shot. AND they wanted 11x14" prints out of it.

So that's what I did. And I was amazed at how well it worked out. I had worried about what this was doing to my resolution. But looking at the 11x14" print, you'd never know it. They loved it. And I sold about 35 copies of the print.

So if a 20D can do it, so can a 30D. Your print size may be limited, but I'm suggesting you may still be able to get up to an 11x14" size and still not notice the difference.

Good luck!

See? Not as bad as you thought eh? Always remember, the dumbest question is the one you don't ask.

Hey DWTerry. Thanks for posting your experience...

Do you happen to know if the printers used upsizing software? Did you?

I took some prints to one shop that actually DOWNsized my prints because their printer couldn't do 300DPI.

I noticed this because when I took some other prints from my P&S in, they told me that they had upsized the pics and that had cost my images some quality.

Total BS of course and they won't see my face again, but it got me thinking about how much my images were adjusted at the print shop.
