I drove a long way (well, relatively speaking) and even paid to park to go take pictures somewhere today. About an hour into this adventure, my nice new less-than-2-month-old 30D wouldn't let me change aperture in manual mode. I turned it off, turned it back on. Switched lenses. Nope. It was at 5.6 and it wanted to stay there, no matter what I wanted.
I get home, go to look up the Canon support page (which I can't get to at the moment), then check the camera one more time, and now (of course) it works just fine.
Has this happened to anyone else? Could heat be a factor? I can't seem to find anything online via Google. |

Yeah, I thought I checked that, too - especially when I turned it off then on again from that switch. It is kinda difficult to move it, though, so maybe I didn't get it all the way either time. I'll keep an eye on it... :-) |

Oh, and the big wheel still worked for changing ISO - just not aperture in manual mode.

And now it's not working again. Sigh. I've only had it for a month and a couple of days...

Hmmph... my 20D did that once, and then it went away. Never did figure it out.

My 30D had glitched one day while shooting that I could adjust the shutter or apeture one way but not the other, I think I got 30 seconds or bulb and 2.8 and it was stuck there. I ended up having to take the batteries out of the grip and put it back in. Has worked well since. Have you tried taking the batteries out?

You know, the more I look at it, the more I think it's that switch thing that biteme mentioned - it does have two "On" positions and I must have not switched it all the way back up. I tend to turn it off before switching lenses hoping to keep the sensor from sucking up dust.
I'll keep an eye on it. And removing the battery and putting it back in was the one thing I hadn't tried. My normal procedure when things don't work - 1) is it plugged in? 2) is it turned on? 3) if yes to both, kick it once - did that help? 4) if no to #3, buy a new one. |
