As a new boy I did not realise I could not enter 2 challenges at once. Therefore, having prepared this one I would be grateful for any critique on it plus a score, please. Thank you very much!

Lol. I did that the first week i entered too. I had both photos to enter than after i entered the first one i realized it woudlnt let me enter the second. You made the right move entering your color on color. I don't feel this one would have done as well. I would have given it a 5 or 6 but i'm a higher voter than most. I think it's cramped at the top(could use space between the white circle and the top of the photo) , I don't understand what that circlular thing is so that's quite distracting. also the closer chess piece being out of focus takes away from this. just my personal opinion. don't mean it rude. figure you'd appreciate honesty. on the other hand I did very much like your color on color entry. 19 tens are nothing to scoff at. that's amazing. Hope this helps.

Good you entered in "Color on color", though that image might have scored high in "Black and white in color", too.
This would have gotten a 3 or 4 from me, because [not meant to be rude]: it is or looks slightly tilted to the right, i can't see why you used this DOF, I don't think the title fits the image (no "saving" action seen here), I can't define what the round thing is, I don't understand why the horse is inside it, there is more space needed at the top and less at the right, the frontmost figure is cropped, the light is too harsh, chess is absolutely not original for this challenge.

Just my 2 cents.

Photos of chess pieces are about a dime a dozen, but an interesting portrait is worth a lot more. I think you made the right choice in submission.
