My hard drive just died in my laptop. I took it out and put it in a external box, and put in a new hard drive and am in the process of getting everything back to how it was.

I checked the old drive and all the files where there, I have install microsoft office again and outlook 2003.

Where are all the outlook files kept though? I would just like to copy and paste all the old files into the new directory so it will act like it did before.

I did that with firefox, just took all the info from the application data directory and firefox is like it was before, but i can't figure out how to do that with outlook.

anyone know?

there should be a *,pst file in your "My Documents" folder. That's the default at least.

You are looking for a file ending in pst. Do a search on *.pst and you should get at least one. Normally it'll be outlook.pst unless you've fiddle with things.

No, the account settings are not stored with the actual e-mail file, AFAIK. It's probably easiest to re-enter them. There may be a file stored in a folder someplace under c:\documents and settings\... but I don't know where it would be or what it would be called.

Edit:

This page may be helpful...

It gives the loation and file extension of a few useful files. Note that the portion should be what you log on as. If youi are the only user, it could also be under "default user"

thanks, that site did it.

I didn't manage to import my account settings, but a few searches on google and a few minutes later i think i have them in order again (mostly anyhow) All the old emails and contacts are there, so that is the main thing.
