I am shooting a music festival this weekend. I have a VIP pass, but Im not sure if that means backstage or not. I am a photog for one of the bands. I am pretty sure I will be able to be on stage, but if not I will be able to get real close (front row or maybe side stage). Music is all day into late night.
I am going to rent 1 of these lenses for the event, which should it be and why?
Either 70-200 f2.8L IS USM or 24-70 f2.8L.
The other lenses I own are 50mm f1.8, 100mm f2.8 macro USM, and 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. |

I would go with the 70-200mm. If you want to get real close to the band members and really isolate them this is the lens. You already have enough glass on the lower end of the scale. I would also say don't limit yourself to just shooting either on or near the stage, back up and get some nice atmosphere shots with the crown in front of the stage. If this is going to be in Hardwick, they usually set the stage on the lower end of a small hill and will let you get great shots down into the crowd leading up to the stage. I shot the Reggae Festival there a few years ago and had a blast.
