Mine took a dump on me. The manual focus ring just spins around and doesn't grab the focus gears and I keep getting an r09 error when in auto focus mode. and it wont shoot Anybody have any ideas? I am needing this lens for tomorrow nightd Padres game.

Take it to a camera store and see if there is a quick fix, if not Manual focus might be your only option.

According to him, the manual focus ring just spins... Sounds like he's stripped a gear or something...

I thought he meant it spins while in auto focus mode only.

The r09 may not be an error message. This displays to show the buffer size if your settings are set to large/fine when shooting in jpeg mode.

Repair shop $300.00 Plus $150.00 for a rental while it's out.
