Should I consider having a myspace set up for photo's? I recently did some band photos, and am getting lots of requests to do some more, and they are asking me what my myspace is, and I hate that site so much.

I hate it too, and it's a piece of shit site, too, not even remotely user-intuitive and just about always slow as molasses thanks to overloaded servers.
That said, I do keep a Myspace solely for my photos. I haven't done any networking or anything to get real exposure or anything but I figure any exposure at all is good exposure.

I think you should just set one up, like it or not for bands its nearly a must and its the easiest way for them to find you. Especially if they are already asking for your page. And yes it is sooo slow.

| I'm pretty sure they keep it slow and crappy on purpose... for some reason, the emo crowd really likes that, If they professionalized it up, they probably wouldn't get the following they have |

Avoid myspace at all costs.
I've never, ever gone to a website starting with myspace.com and will never go. Ever.
It's best to avoid the entire site altogether, there are thousands of alternatives. |

Agreed with sammigirl. I've been there once before, but I didn't know it as I followed a 'blind' link in the forums once.
I didn't feel betrayed or anything, but I didn't think it was anything special...
Why not step it up a notch and get your own site set up. I think you can do this for fairly reasonable prices.
Then you just get some nice simple business cards and boom. You look pro.
Because it's your site, you can both look pro and look grungy.
I doubt any rock/grunge/punk band would say something like Joey's site is anything but pro and I STRONGLY doubt that they would hate it for professionalism. |

| I don't know how you could possibly, ever, tell someone that you have a myspace page without being horribly ashamed afterwards...so, yeah, I'd say go somewhere else. |

I keep one and just simply link to my own website. It is good for networking and that is about all.

I do want to add that Myspace should not be your only site. I treat it as a photoblog, and have it linked from my dot com site. Like I said, just for the exposure. Every post links back to the dot com. It can be a useful tool, but it's hella annoying in large doses. As a blogging service, LiveJournal is far superior.

| The thing is is you're dealing with bands its highly likly that they have their myspace and they'll want to see your myspace. Its probably familiar to them, and comfortable for them to use. I don't like myspace much at all, but in your situation I'd likly set up a simple but effective kind of page. |

I just registered my own domain. I am just going to break down spend the late nights building a site. At least there won't be all the lame adds. Then I will just post a link from my Myspace site to my real site. I am not good enough to have my own site, but probably good enough to take crappy band photos!
jasoncrossphoto.com coming soon...

you are absolutely good enough to have your own site...and doing this now is definitely the right move...I waited years to build my own site, and now I'm finding it quite the chore (6 months and running...*sigh*) |

I am going to throw up one using Jalbum because I am pressed for time for the next couple weeks. I might even make a flash site, but it just takes so much time! I like Jalbum because I can just shove those photo's in a directory and publish. That is so simple.
Jason Cross Photo <-- keep checking back to see my progress tonight! lol |
