Sorry, but everyone here helps with so much advice, I thought I'd ask my off-topic question here. I'm doing a website for my cousin. The site, let's call it www.mycousinswebsite.com, is already in service with another company, but my cousin wanted me to take it over today. Well, I found someone to do my webhosting and signed up... and they gave me the servers that the old site needs to "point to," whatever that means.
Well, I tried to go to www.mycousinswebsite.com tonight, and it has been suspended by the people who are currently running the site. I've contacted my webhosting people, the people who were running the site, and the registrar to try to update the server info... but I'm making no progress and don't know who to turn to for help. My cousin isn't giving me any help, he's just kind of left me (a designer, mind you) to figure this out on my own.
Can anyone enlighten me on the process? Am I missing a step somewhere? Thanks in advance.

How do you know it's been suspended? Was it not renewed? |

That means you need to go to where the domain name (i.e. mycousinswebsite.com) and change the nameserver settings to the ones you were given by your new host. Then the domain name will "point to" those servers, which will in turn "point to" the place where your website should be.
You can find out where the name is registered using any "whois" tool - like this one: //www.zoneedit.com/whois.html?zone=dpchallenge.com (replace dpchallenge.com with your cousins domain name)
Hope that helps. If not, PM me the domain name and I'll assist you. |

I went to the site, and it said it was suspended.
This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.
I think my cousin had paid his current people until today.

Most hosting and domain registrations are for a one two or three year time frame. You willprobably have to pay them for a year if they refuse to release the domain. Good luck just went through moving my sites to a new host and had a headache doing so. |

if anyone has any more tips, please feel free to pm me. after the DQ/suspension drama of last night, i can't afford to stay up that late tonight. :) but for those of you who might be in better-suited time zones, i'd love to wake up to your sage advice. :) and thanks so much to all of you who've already tried to help.

THANK YOU to KEN (Art ROFLMAO) for your advice on this... turns out I just needed to be a little more patient, as I got access to the site today and am up and running! I'm a happy camper tonight-- maybe I'll get back to photography soon!

Glad to hear, anna.
pffft. Designers. (my wife is one) ;-)
sidenote: you do not know how tempted I was to register "mycousinswebsite.com" and post something up there just for fun. Sheesh, I am becoming more restrained in my old age. |
