My Sigma has recently been dropped and I am considering buying a replacement for it. I shoot a LOT of wildlife so fast glass is basically a must. I have been looking at a few options. Canon has a 17-55, but that leaves me with a bit of a hole between 55 and 70 (I have a 70-200 Canon Lens).
I am basically looking for
a) fast glass
b) range between 24-70 (or at least most of that range)
c) short min focus distance (I am often very close)
d) light weight is always nice
e) small mm, also can help me, although I have the 50 1.8, and 100 micro.
f) given a choice I would rather the front element didn't move (like the sigma does)
g) image stablisation helps, but mostly I shoot moving subjects.
Anyone have any ideas or recomendations it would be greatly appeciated. Thanks!

| Well, the Canon 24-70 2.8L is THE perfect companion to the 70-200. Not on the light side but worth the extra weight, and if you're already used to the weight of the 70-200, this one is a bit lighter. |

The Tamron 28-75 is a superb lens, with a constant F/2.8, and has a minimum focus distance of just over a foot (I think). I personally love mine, and many consider it on par with the Canon 24-70, or very close, and about half the price.

I agree with Telehubbie. The Canon 24-70 is everything you want, except light weight... a fast, 24-70 class zoom that is also light does not exist. There's lots of glass in there!
The canon 24-70 provides incredible optical performance, f/2.8 speed, great build quality. It also has 1:3.5 "semi-macro" capability. It will give you about a 3-inch wide, 2-inch high FoV at minimum focus. |

Thanks, it looks like the 24-70 F2.8L it is. Just have to check it with the Hubby.
