A weekend ago Europe staged its premier airshow in Farnborough England. It's held here every other year, and the other every other year it's held in Paris.

Here are some photos from the show. As always direct but constructive comments are appreciated.

I come from "Boeing Country" but that didn't diminish my enthusiasm for the giant Airbus A-380.

The Russian Fulcrum MiG29 OVT was the star of the fighter jets. With vectored thrust, this performed some unbelievable maneuvers.

The Bell Boeing tilt rotor V-22 Osprey.

RAF Tornado.

HAL Intermediate Jet Trainer.

Saab Grippen.

F/A-18F

Boeing AH-64D Apache. And yes it's flying a true loop in the second photo.

RAF Typhoon.

Red Arrow Demonstration Team.

Undemanding crowd control.

In order ... Aermacchi M-346, Fox Aerobatic Glider, USAF B-1B Stealth Bomber, RAF Chinook, RAF Harrier, Lockheed Martin F-16.

Northrop Grumman UAV.

RAF Falcons.

A word about the skies ... On Saturday we had thunder storms, hail, strong winds and rain mid-afternoon which interupted the show briefly. And on Sunday we had every conceivable kind of sky from blue to gray to black. Since the planes were all over the sky, the backgrounds are quite variable.

A word about aircraft attitudes ... no photo here was rotated. All aircraft attitudes are real, just as they were flown.

If you're not an airshow enthusiast, this will have been a long boring post. Sorry. If you are an enthusiast, I hope you enjoyed it. It was a Great show!

Love all your shots. While I'm not an 'airshow enthusiast', I am an action enthusiast. I would rather be shooting drag racers, motocross, etc than landscapes....though I like that too. I hope theres a show around here sometime soon. What lens did you use and did you use a teleconverter?

For all but 3 of the shots I used a Nikon AF Zoom-Nikor 70-200mm F/2.8 VR DG IF-ED lens. For the shots of the Airbus, the Osprey and the UAV on the ground, I used a Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikor 12-24mm F/4.0G IF-ED lens.

The 70-200 works well for flying aircraft. The 12-24 does a nie job with static displays.
