Help!
Today is the first day with my first SLR, and my joy has been dashed by some mystery setting that I can't seem to fix.
When I play back each shot, there are bright white flashes on the LCD screen where it is "seeing" shadows. I have combed the manual over and don't know how I ended up with this feature being 'turned on'. There is a small box at the bottom right of the screen that will either read: Highlight, or Shadow. Anyhow, I'm sure some use this feature and love it, but I'm finding it annoying.

Its a feature to let you know if you have underexposed or overexposed areas in your shot.
For example, try taking a shot with a bright/cloudy sky in the background and you'll probably get 'highlights' in the sky flashing like that.
The reason you get this warning is because there's a chance that you've lost detail in these areas. If under/overexposed you won't be able to get this detail back correctly during post-processing.
Anyway, check Pg.103 of your manual.
To turn this 'off' (well, actually to change the mode of the image display), press the 'info' button a few times. |

The concept of this feature is brilliant, it just caught me off-guard while I was trying new shots.

| Yeah, I had a 'duh' moment when I saw how easy it was to remedy. Funny thing is, in a few weeks when I'm used to the new 'baby', I'll probably switch it right back 'on'. :) |
