I have been browsing for a couple of months now. I am looking to purchase a camcorder by October. I am due to have a baby in December and my old minicassette camcorder just is not cutting it. The batteries no longer hold a charge for more than 30 minutes. I hate the hassle of having to set up the AC power supply and I am missing out on precious days of my now 1 year old and other two boys.

I have finally decided I should go with the DVD camcorder over the mini-DV because I am so BAD at transferring video as it is. High optical zoom is important to me (for those school functions of course) as well as a possible need for additional external microphone. Any suggestions?

I have looked up old forum discussions on this topic and found quite a few on the Mini-DV, but anyone a DVD camcorder user?
